Parties on a grand scale inVilafranca
In Vilafranca we bring shows with lots of characters to the square, face painting to the fairs and bouncy castles to birthdays at home. It is the capital of the Alt Penedès, and its Festa Major was declared a Festa Patrimonial d'Interès Nacional in 1991.
Vilafranca’s Festa Major is that of Sant Fèlix, and every day it repeats an order that goes back to the 17th century: a parade in the morning, castells, the human towers, at midday and a procession in the afternoon. The children have their own place too: the Casa de la Festa Major keeps a space for the children’s festival, with giants and a dragon made to their size.
Amid so much protocol, the afternoon calls for something else: a show with six characters for a big square, face painting and balloon twisting so the queue flies by, or bouncy castles for anyone unlucky enough to have a birthday right in the middle of the Festa Major.
For a parent association, a local group or a neighbourhood party, we take care of organising the event: the show, the face painting, the sound and the running order of the afternoon.
When is it party time here?
- in late August (the main day is the 30th)
- Festa Major de Sant Fèlix: parade, castells and procession.
- at Carnival (February or March)
- The Rei Carnestoltes, the Carnival King, on the balcony of the Plaça de la Vila.
- the weekend before Christmas
- Fira del Gall, with a children’s corner in the Parc de Sant Julià.

Cuca tries to direct six Disney characters and the audience brings order to the routines. It needs a big square, like the ones at the Festa Major.

Mickey and Minnie learn the steps to lead the parade, with a costume catwalk: for a Carnival that already sets its afternoon aside for the children.

Bouncy Castles
Five models for children aged 3 to 8 and four hours of bouncing. If the birthday is in August, the water ones need a tap within 10 m.

How long does it take us to get here?
We set off from Vilanova i la Geltrú: Vilafranca is about 18 km away, around 20 minutes by car.
What people ask us
Do you do face painting at a fair like the Fira del Gall?
Yes, that is what Face Painting & Balloons is for: each child gets a wristband and carries on wandering until it is their turn. In December, better under cover.
What do we need for a street show in Vilafranca?
A clear space, a socket nearby and the permit, which whoever organises applies for and checks with the town council. The civic rules ask for the place to be left clean: we pick up our things when we finish.
Where can children see the giants the rest of the year?
At the Casa de la Festa Major, on carrer Muralla dels Vallets, with the eagle, the dragon and a children’s festival corner with small figures.
